Cookie Monster Cupcakes

Warning... these are not "lite"... they are not diet food, BUT...

If given the chance, who wouldn't decorate cupcakes for this sweet little face????

So... that's Gavin. He's precious, and he turned two on Halloween :-) His momma and I go back to our college days at Belmont. Ironically, she was a transfer as well... from my nemesis, Missouri - Boooo :-( But we were fast friends, mostly because we both had a wind breaker with the same letters on it... KKG! Yup, we are both Kappas! Lucky for me, our friendship has lasted long after our college hood days. She and her husband live about 5 mins down the road from us with their precious--now 2 year old-- Gavin and their almost 5 month old Kinley. They have become great friends, and I would do just about anything for them. (Including stealing their kids and eating them up because they really are that precious!)

When Heather started talking about Gavin's birthday and what she wanted to do--we formed a plan to make Cookie Monster Cupcakes!!!! It seemed like a great idea, and I think it was. So, here's how it went...

I borrowed a massive amount of cake decorating supplies from my neighbor Jeniffer. And when I say massive, I mean massive... Thanks Jeniffer :-)
Richie and I made icing at home before heading over to Heather and Daniel's place... We used the Wilton buttercream icing recipe. And we made 6 cups of the stuff... ACK! Lucky for me, my darling hubby's grandmother used to decorate cakes and Richie knew what it was supposed to look like (because I certainly didn't...) -- What have I gotten myself into was a thought that ran through my head many times!!!!

So, this was the beginning...

Cupcakes... well, sort of :-) (inside joke -- sorry... hint: these aren't the cupcakes we iced)
Icing - before we started dying it all kinds of crazy colors
The blue icing... Yikes, I may need more...
The "Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough" icing... We took the white icing and dyed it brown (ok, Richie did this because he was better at it than I was) and then we added min-chocolate chips to it so that it looked like cookie dough... or cookies...
And then we began icing cupcakes... This was just the beginning and we were just getting warmed up!

And by the end of it... we had (well, I had) blue icing from head to toe and all over Heather's house... 48 cupcakes in all...
And this was what the cupcakes looked like for the party...
And this is the birthday boy, and his precious momma!!! Happy Birthday Gavin, may you find happiness in life and know that you are loved by your family and your extended family(that's me and Richie), and most importantly by God! (Oh, and may I have a daughter at some point who you'll fall in love with so I can be related to your momma for real!)

And then... my hand was cramped :-)

But a cramped hand is fine... especially when you have friends like this :-)
